From the cellphone
- How can my friend who uses Etisalat Messenger send me messages to my cellphone?
- He/she has to add your Etisalat cellphone number to his/her contact list. Once he/she did this, you'll receive an SMS message with an authorization request. Reply OK to this message and you both will be connected through Etisalat Messenger. (Your friend will not be able to send you any message from Etisalat Messenger to your cellphone until you authorize him/her). Once authorized, your friend will be able to send you messages which you'll receive as SMS messages.
- How do I reply to a message sent to me by my friend who uses Etisalat Messenger?
- Just reply to the SMS message you received like you would reply to any other SMS message and your friend will receive your reply on his computer.
- Note: If your friend signed out of Etisalat Messenger, your reply will not be delivered and you'll be notified about this.
- How do I start chatting with an Etisalat Messenger user?
To start a chat, send an SMS message to 4455 with one of the following options in the body of the message:
- Etisalat Messenger username of the person you want to chat with.
- E-mail address of the person you want to chat with.
- Etisalat Messenger username of the person you want to chat with, a space and the message you want to send him/her.
- E-mail address of the person you want to chat with, a space and the message you want to send him/her.
If the person you're trying to chat with is not an Etisalat Messenger user, he/she will receive an e-mail telling him/her that you wanted to chat with him/her using your Etisalat cellphone.
If the person you're trying to chat with is an Etisalat Messenger user but is offline, you'll receive an SMS message notifying you about this.
If the person you're trying to chat with is online, you'll receive an SMS message notifying you about this. To start chatting with him/her, simply reply to that message just like you would reply to any other SMS message.
- How do I know which of my contacts are online?
- To know which of your contacts are online, send CONNECTLIST to 4455 and you'll receive an SMS message with the list of your online contacts.
- How do I know which of the Etisalat Messenger users have me in their contact lists?
- To know which of the Etisalat Messenger users have you in their contact lists, send LIST to 4455 and you'll receive an SMS message displaying the usernames of those Etisalat Messenger users who have you in their contact lists.
- How can I block a Etisalat Messenger user?
- To block an Etisalat Messenger user, send BLOCK username to 4455. For example, BLOCK Paul.
- How do I know which are the users I have blocked?
- To obtain a list of the users you have blocked, send BLOCKLIST to 4455 and you'll receive an SMS message with the list of your blocked users.
- How can I unblock a user?
- To unblock a user, send UNBLOCK username to 4455. For example, UNBLOCK Paul. Once you did this, you'll be able to receive messages from this user again.
- How can I invite a friend to use Etisalat Messenger?
- If your friend hasn't created an Etisalat Messenger account yet, you can invite him to do so by sending an SMS message to 4455 with his/her e-mail address in the body of the message. An invitation will be automatically sent to him/her with the instructions on how to create an Etisalat Messenger account so that he/she can start chatting with you.
From the computer
- I want to use Etisalat Messenger but I can't install it on this computer, is there any other way I can use Etisalat Messenger?
- If you're using a computer where you can't install Etisalat Messenger, you can use the web-based version at
. Unlike the downloadable version, this one doesn't allow you to send group messages or connect to other instant messaging networks.
- How do I create my username and password to start using Etisalat Messenger?
- Once you installed Etisalat Messenger, click 'New User'. A form will appear which you'll have to fill out with the required information in order to create your Etisalat Messenger account. When you're done, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you provided. Click on the link you'll receive in that e-mail to complete the process of activating your Etisalat Messenger account.
- The username you chose when you created your account will be the one that the persons will see on their cellphones when you send them messages using Etisalat Messenger.
- During the creation of your Etisalat Messenger account, you can associate your account to your Etisalat cellphone number.
- By doing this, you'll be creating an Etisalat Messenger PLUS account which gives you the following additional features:
- If you used up all of your free messages you may continue sending exceeding messages from your PC.
- Send programmed messages
- Send group messages
- Centralize your MSN, AOL, ICQ and Yahoo! accounts in Etisalat Messenger
The first time you log on Etisalat Messenger, you'll be asked to enter your usernames and passwords for the main instant messaging networks of the world. You must not have an account in each of them to start using Etisalat Messenger, but if you have, enter the username and password and start chatting with the contacts you already have.
- How can I activate the additional features in my account (activate a PLUS account)?
- Click 'Settings' on the menu bar and choose 'Activate PLUS'. A new window will pop-up where you can select the country and/or regional code of your cellphone number. Select the country/regional code, enter your number y click 'Submit'. If you entered the correct information, you'll see a message saying that the activation has been successful. Relog on Messenger Etisalat and enjoy the additional features.
- How do I change my status?
- There are two ways of doing this:
- Click 'Status' on the menu bar. The different statuses will be displayed: Online, Occupied, Not Available, Invisible and Offline. Choose one and click on it. (Note: if you don't have a PLUS account, the statuses you'll see will be Online and Offline.)
- Right-click on the Etisalat Messenger icon located on the system tray (you can find the system tray on the lower right corner of your screen). A menu with different options will appear, one of the options is 'My status'. Click on it and choose your status.
- How can I change the skin of Etisalat Messenger?
- To change the skin, click 'Skin' on the menu bar and choose the skin you'd like for the application. You'll be asked for confirmation, click 'Yes'.
- You can also change the skin by right-clicking on Etisalat Messenger's icon located at the system tray (you can find the system tray on the lower right corner of your screen). A menu with different options will appear, one of the options is 'Skin'. Click on it and choose the one you prefer. When asked for confirmation, just click 'Yes'.
- I have no more free messages, how can I continue sending messages?
- If you've used all of your free messages, you'll be informed about this. To continue sending messages from Etisalat Messenger, your Etisalat cellphone contact has to send you a message. If you have activated a PLUS account, you'll be able to send messages even if you don't receive any message from your contacts. The messages you send after the free ones are used up will be charged.
- How do I know how many free messages I have left?
- Click 'Users' on the menu bar and choose 'Check free messages'. A message saying how many free messages you have left will appear.
- How do I send group messages?
- If you have a PLUS account activated, you can send group messages.
- Click on 'Contact List' and choose 'Create folder' to create a new folder. Once created, choose the contacts you want to send a message to and move them to the new folder (To move a contact to another folder, right-click on the contact and choose the option 'Move/Copy'. Select the folder you want to move the contact to and click 'Move').
- To send the message to all of the contacts in the folder, click on the folder and choose the option 'Send message'. In the chat window, write the message and click 'Send'. The message will be sent to all the contacts in the folder.
Note: The message won't be sent to offline contacts.
- How can I send programmed messages?
- If you have a PLUS account activated, you can send programmed messages.
Click on a contact or a folder and choose 'Send message'. In the chat window, check the box beside the date and time and choose the date and time you want the message to be sent. Write the message and click 'Send'. The message will be delivered on the date and time you specified.
- I forgot my password, what should I do?
- If you forgot your password, you can generate a new one by clicking on 'Forgot your password'?
By doing this, a new window will appear where you'll have to enter the e-mail address you provided during sign up. After entering the e-mail address, click 'Submit'. The new password will be sent to this e-mail address.
- How do I change my password?
- To change your password, click 'Settings' on the menu bar and choose 'Change password'. A new window will appear where you'll have to enter your current password, the new one and a confirmation of the new one. After entering these, click 'Submit'. A message will inform you if the change has been made successfully.
- How do I save my messages?
If you have a PLUS account activated, you can save your messages.
There are three ways of saving your messages:
- Click 'Settings' on the menu bar and choose 'History'. Check the box that says 'Save message history on this computer' and click 'Ok'.
- Right-click on a contact and from the menu options choose 'Activate history'. Check the box that says 'Save message history on this computer' and click 'Ok'.
- When chatting with a contact, in the chat window you'll find a cellphone-like icon above the space for writing messages. Right-click on the icon and choose the option 'Activate history'. Check the box that says 'Save message history on this computer' and click 'Ok'.
- From this moment on, all your messages received from and sent to all your contacts will be automatically saved.
- I no longer want my messages to be saved, what should I do?
- Click 'Settings' on the menu bar and choose 'History'. Uncheck the box that says 'Save message history on this computer' and click 'Ok'. From that moment on, the messages you receive or send from and to all your contacts will no longer be saved.
- How can I see my saved messages?
- To see the messages you exchanged with a contact, right-click on the contact and choose 'History'. A new window displaying all the messages received from and sent to this contact from the moment you decided to activate the feature that automatically saves your messages will appear.
- Another way of viewing your saved messages is through the chat window. There's a cellphone-like icon above the space for writing messages, right-click on it and choose 'History' to view the messages.
- How can I delete the saved messages?
- To delete the saved messages you exchanged with a contact, right-click on the contact. From the menu, choose 'History'. Another window showing all the messages that have been saved will pop up. To delete the messages, simply click on 'Delete'.
- Another way of accessing the window that allows you to delete the saved messages is through the chat window. There's a cellphone-like icon above the space for writing messages, right-click on it and choose 'History'. In the window that pops up, click on 'Delete'.
- How can I send a file to my contacts?
If you have a PLUS account activated, you can send files to your MSN/Yahoo!/AOL/ICQ contacts.
There are two ways of sending a file to a contact:
- Right-click on the contact you want to send a file to. From the drop-down menu choose 'Send file'. Then, choose the file you want to send and wait until the contact accepts it.
- If you're chatting with the contact, in the chat window you'll see a cellphone-like icon above the space you have for writing messages. Right-click on the icon and choose 'Send file'. Then, choose the file you want to send and wait until your contact accepts it.
