How does it work

First of all, you have to download Etisalat Messenger. To do so, click here.

Once you installed it, click on 'New User'. A form will appear which you'll have to fill out with the required information in order to create your Etisalat Messenger account. When you're done, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you provided. Click on the link you'll receive in that e-mail to complete the process of activating your Etisalat Messenger account.

The username you chose when you created your account will be the one that the contacts will see on their cellphones when you send them messages using Etisalat Messenger.

During the creation of your Etisalat Messenger account, you can associate your account to your Etisalat cellphone number. By doing this, you'll be creating an Etisalat Messenger PLUS account which gives you the following additional features:

If you used up all of your free messages you may continue sending exceeding messages from your PC.

Send group messages

Centralize your MSN, AOL, ICQ and Yahoo! accounts in Etisalat Messenger

The first time you log on Etisalat Messenger, you'll be asked to enter your usernames and passwords for the main instant messaging networks of the world. You must not have an account in each of them to start using Etisalat Messenger, but if you have, enter the username and password and start chatting with the contacts you already have.

To add an Etisalat cellphone to your contact list:

Click 'Users' on the menu bar and choose 'Add Etisalat cellphone'.

Enter the cellphone number of the person you want to chat with.

Then, enter a name you want to associate to that cellphone number. This way you can easily recognize that contact in your list.

The person with the cellphone number you added to your list will receive an SMS message which he/she will have to reply in order to authorize you to send him/her messages.

To start a chat with a cellphone:

Open the message window by double-clicking on the contact with whom you want to chat.

Write your message and click 'Send'.

You'll have to wait for a while until the cellphone replies (remember that typing a message on a cellphone takes more time than typing a message on the computer)

You have a certain amount of free messages you can send per day. This amount decreases with every message you send to Etisalat cellphones and increases with every reply you receive from Etisalat cellphones. To know how many free messages you still have, click 'Users' on the menu bar and choose 'Check free messages'.

To add a MSN/Yahoo!/ICQ/AOL contact:

If you have a PLUS account, click 'Settings' on the menu bar and choose 'ICQ, AOL, MSN, Yahoo setup'.

By entering your usernames and passwords for the main instant messaging networks, Etisalat Messenger will automatically import all of your contacts of those networks to your Etisalat Messenger contact list.

To add a contact of one of those networks, all you have to do is click on 'Users' on the menu bar and choose the option corresponding to the network to which the contact you want to add belongs. A new window will appear where you'll be able to enter the username or e-mail address (it depends upon the network) of the person you want to add to your contact list.

Open the message window by double-clicking on the contact with whom you want to chat and start chatting just like you would do on any other messenger.

How does it work from your cellphone

How to start a chat with an Etisalat Messenger user:

Send an SMS message to 4455. In the body of the message, write one of the following:

E-mail address of the person with whom you want to chat.

The Etisalat Messenger username of the person with whom you want to chat.

If the person you want to chat with is not an Etisalat Messenger user, he/she will receive an e-mail telling him/her that you wanted to chat with him/her.

If the person you want to chat with is an Etisalat Messenger user but he/she is not online, you'll receive an SMS message telling you this.

If the person you want to chat with is online, you'll receive an SMS message telling you this. To start chatting, simply reply to that message.

How to reply to a message sent from Etisalat Messenger:

When somebody tries to contact you through Etisalat Messenger, you'll receive an SMS message in your cellphone. Reply to that message just like you would reply to any SMS message and your reply will be delivered to the Etisalat Messenger user that sent you the message.

Other possibilities:

If you send HELP to 4455, you'll receive a list of commands you can use to interact with Etisalat Messenger. The commands are the following:

An SMS message with any of the commands above should be sent to 4455.
